Isaac: 2 1/2 Years Old

Wow!  I can't believe Isaac is two and a half years old!  I know, I know...I start every single rocking chair post like that, but it really amazes me how quickly life with these little ones is flying by!
At 2 1/2, Isaac loves to...
  • SING!  Some of his favorite songs are "Jesus Loves Me," The ABC Song, "Holy, Holy, Holy" (I especially love how he sings the last few words in the chorus as "Blessed Twin-i-tee"), "Pop Goes the Weasel," and "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star"
  • READ!  Isaac has always loved reading books with us before nap time and bedtime each day, but lately we've also started having Isaac do "reading time" right before David comes home each evening.  He sits in his big chair in the family room and pages through his books very intently.  It's so fun to watch!
  • COUNT!  Isaac can usually get to somewhere around 11 or 12, though he almost always skips 5.  ;)
  • PRACTICE LETTERS  Once Isaac learned the ABC song, he started noticing letters everywhere.  For example, he'll pick up a cereal box and touch the words on it while saying the names of random letters.  He's also watched the Letter Factory DVD a few times which focuses on the sounds each letter makes.  He loves to walk through the house and chant "A says 'ah,' A says 'ah,' every letter makes a sound A says 'ah'."  At this point, any of the letters say "ah!"  :)
  • PRACTICE COLORS  Isaac says the colors of many things, and he always associates them with an object.  He'll say, "My shirt is blue--blue like the sky!"  The other day, he said blue was like the sky & green was like the grass.  David asked him what pink was like.  Isaac paused, and then he said, "Pink like Baby Emma's stuff!"  :)
  • BLUE'S CLUES A friend borrowed us a "Blue's Clues" DVD, and it is now Isaac's favorite show. In each episode, Blue (the puppy) and his owner try to figure out a set of clues, which the owner sketches in the "handy-dandy notebook." A few weeks ago, Isaac asked me for a "handy notebook." He sat and watched an episode of "Blue's Clues" with his notebook in one hand, a crayon in the other (to sketch the clues, of course), and his snack tucked between his legs.
  • BIBLE CLASS--We go to Bible Study Fellowship, which Isaac calls Bible class, each Wednesday morning. Isaac loves his teachers, Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Thomas, and talks about them throughout the week.  Nearly every day, Isaac asks, "Go Bible Class today, Mommy?"  I am so thankful for the wonderful experiences and teaching Isaac is receiving from his sweet Bible Study Fellowship teachers!
  • "A BOY NAMED ISAAC"--David started telling Isaac a story each night about "a boy named Isaac."  Dave is a great story-teller--I even have fun hearing the adventure Dave makes up in each story!  Isaac says, "a boy named Isaac story, please" all the time now, and he'll usually specify what he wants Isaac to do in each story.  One night, he told David, "a boy named Isaac story, please..in a plane, on a crane, in a truck, and on a horsey."  A few days ago I said, "You are such a big boy" to Isaac.  He said, "No, I a little boy named Isaac."
  • DADDY!  "I want Daddy" is the first thing Isaac says each morning!  Isaac loves the weekends when he gets to spend two days with Daddy (I do, too!).  No matter what Dave is doing, Isaac is right next to him doing the exact same thing--or at least as close as possible.  :)

Isaac said, "This is my mow-mow, and that is Daddy's mow-mow."  Two other words I don't want to forget Isaac saying at this stage are "cat-a-poo" (caterpillar) and "hel-i-doe" (helicopter).
Time, slow down!  I just love this sweet, energetic 2 1/2 year old!
