30... 30? 30!

I've been determined to post about my 30th birthday for the past 2 weeks...but I've had so much fun planning and preparing for Isaac's birthday that it just hasn't happened yet!  I know if I don't do it before his birthday fun begins tomorrow, it will never happen.  So, here's a quick recap of my birthday surprises!

Turning 30 wasn't exactly at the top of my list of things I wanted to do this year.  Losing the babies earlier this year only made turning 30 harder.  For some (unrealistic, crazy) reason, I really thought I'd "have it together" by the time I turned 30.  But, after a good, long cry a few nights before my birthday, I was ready to embrace 30 and focus on all the good things in my life...an amazing husband, the sweetest little boy on earth, loving and supportive family, fantastic friends, the hope that God is not finished writing our story yet--the list goes on.  I truly am so thankful for these amazing blessings in my life.
I had a hunch Dave was up to something fun for my birthday.  On Friday afternoon, he texted me to "dress up and be ready to leave at 5 p.m."  My Uncle Jon came to babysit Isaac, and Dave and I left for Southlake.  I figured we were going to Brio for dinner, but instead we ate a quick supper at Taco Diner.  Then, we went shopping for my gift.  I'm sure it sounds crazy, but one of the things I really wanted was a glass door for our backyard so that I can see Isaac while he's playing outside.  So, we went to Lowe's!  While we were there, Dave got a call from my cousin Nate, who was babysitting Isaac along with my Uncle Jon.  Dave seemed a little distracted while he talked to Nate, but then he put the phone down and told me "Isaac threw up his whole supper and now was dry-heaving!"  At that point, I just started laughing.  I knew Isaac wasn't throwing up, much less dry-heaving!  :)  Dave couldn't quite keep himself composed either and started to laugh.  Dave paid for the door, and we headed home!  All the way there he kept reminding me that even though I thought I figured out the surprise, there was still more I didn't know about once we got home.
SURPRISE!
And, he was right!  Even in all the scenarios I had played through my mind of what Dave might do for my birthday, I never pictured a surprise party at our house.  (Thankfully, I had dusted the whole house just that morning.)  :)  It really was so fun walking into our house and seeing all my sweet family members and friends who were there waiting!

Dave had worked so hard to make my birthday special. Along with the help of my cousin Nate, Dave made a birthday video of my pictures from all the "decades" of my life set to some of my favorite songs.  My husband didn't miss a beat!  Dave definitely wins an award for making me feel so loved.  He also had e-mailed friends from high school, Covenant Pines and college, former co-workers, and even a few students I used to teach at Friendship Elementary asking them all to send letters and/or pictures to wish me a Happy Birthday! While Dave and I were out for dinner, my family hung all of them up around the family room. It was so special to read them all!
See the "30" balloon in the picture?  My mom hung those all around the house, and the caption made me laugh so hard:  30...the party continues!

Isaac got to stay up WAY past his bedtime for the party!  His "mustache" is from the amazing mocha punch my friend Jenny made for the party.  She knows how much I love anything coffee!

And, speaking of amazing, the desserts at the party were sensational.  Dave asked my friend Corrie to make the cake...her buttercream frosting could win a national award!  Plus, he ordered pink champagne cakeballs from Susan Robertson.  (If you've ever had any of Susan's cakeballs, you'll never forget them!)

Such a fun night!  Dave and I stayed up until nearly 1 a.m. watching and rewatching the video and reading all the letters and cards I'd received.

The next morning, Dave, Isaac, and I went to Boopa's Bagels (another favorite) for pumpkin bagels and coffee, and later that night we did make it to Brio to celebrate!  And, what would a Bergstrom birthday be without dinner at my mom's house?  She made my favorite tater-tot hotdish, and we had ice cream cake!
Whew!  What a weekend!  There are so many fun birthdays to celebrate in our family each fall.  Last weekend we celebrated my Grandma Joan's 80th birthday!  Here she is with her two little ones--Amanda & Isaac.
Now that this post if finished, I've got to wrap up Isaac's party details....stay tuned for pictures from the cutest little boy's "digger" party ever!

  1. I figured out what it was! It was the "hotdish" that your mom made for "supper!" I'm guessing that's the same as a casserole, but I've never heard it before! Thanks again for today! So fun!
