(I started this post last fall and have slowly been adding Isaac's funny sayings to it. Now that it's the last day of March, I'm pretty sure it's time to finally post!)
Isaac was taking his nap at my mom's house one afternoon. Isaac knows who made most of our quilts and afghans. But, I laid a different afghan on him since we were at my mom's house. Isaac looked at the afghan and asked, "Who built this one?" :)
One morning, I was doing my hair before we left the house. Isaac looked at me with really big eyes and said, "Mommy, you have hair! That means you're a mammal!"
We were on a walk, and Isaac found one of Emma's hairbows on the sidewalk. We had lost it several weeks prior, so when Isaac picked it up he yelled, "Praise the Lord!"
"Mom, you are the cutest mom ever."
Isaac rarely gets hiccups. The other day, though, he had them and kept referring to them as "hook-ups." "Mom, I've got hook-ups!"
Isaac was coloring a Thanksgiving turkey. All of a sudden, he said, "Mom, I just can't color anymore. My arm is out of breath."
Isaac said, "Everybody, pause your talking. We need to make a plan." (Can you say firstborn...being raised by two firstborns? Bless him.)
You know you're a Texan when...your 4 year old son says, "Mommy, it's as cold outside as it is in Antarctica." (It was 53 degrees outside.)
We have been reading through the Little House on the Prairie series. Recently, we read about the Christmas where Laura and Mary wished for horses so that Pa could have a better chance at farming the following spring. A few days after reading that, Isaac said, "Mom, I know what I'd like for Christmas. Candy. And new socks. And candy and new socks for Emma. And a princess costume for Emma since I got a knight costume last Christmas. And horses in the backyard, just like Laura and Mary got horses for Christmas too."
Isaac and Emma play with Emma's dolls and baby highchair together often. The other day as they were playing, Isaac said, "I'm taking Emma on a date. You stay home and watch our baby."
Before we left Houston for our cruise, we spent some time with our friends, the Longs. Landrie had a pet fish which Isaac still talks about. More and more often, Isaac talks about wanting a pet. One day, he found a beetle outside. We brought it in the house and put it in an empty glass jar. "Guess what, Mom? Now I have a pet! I've never had a pet before, but now I do!" Also, Isaac named him "Beetle the Beetle." :) I almost felt bad about how excited Isaac was about having a beetle as a pet.
Isaac and Emma each received a dollar bill in their Valentine's Day cards from Papa and Nana in Colorado. Isaac said, "Mom, I'm going to save my money to go to Paradise Pond. Here, you take it and put it in your purse for when we go there. And, Emma…..(long pause).....you should give yours to church."
Isaac went to the dentist a few weeks ago. He very enthusiastically told the dental hygienist, "I like your toothpaste. I have toothpaste too!"
We were a little concerned about how Isaac articulated his "Ls" and "Rs." Based on the recommendation of our pediatrician, we had Isaac's articulation tested by a speech therapist last month. The speech therapist showed Isaac 50 pictures and asked him to name each picture. When she came to a picture of a cake, Isaac said, "That's a strawberry cake. My sister had a strawberry cake last month at her birthday party. She turned two." The speech therapist's eyes got very big. After a second of silence she said, "Can you just say 'cake'?" When she showed him a picture of a stack of books, Isaac said, "That's a stack of three books. One, two, three. The big one on the bottom is the Bible." At that point, she couldn't help it--she just started laughing! At the end of the appointment, she said, "Can you please tell me why you brought him in?" :)
Oh, we love our funny boy who never quite seems to stop talking…we wouldn't want it any other way!
