We also saw this 1300 lb. pig at the fair. We thought it was hilarious when we later found out that he was not a Texas pig, but rather was flown in from Iowa! (Pigs are generally not raised in Texas due to the heat!)
Of course, there was a lot of great food at the fair! Here is Michelle and me enjoying a delicious cinnamon roll. Foods we also enjoyed:
1) corny dogs (nobody calls them "corn dogs" down here) INTERESTING FACT: corn(y) dogs were invented at the State Fair of Texas somewhere in the 30's/40's (of course, this fact is highly disputable)
2) fried green tomatoes (David only)
3) Frito pie (again, David only)
4) spinach puff (Dad only)
5) cinnamon rolls (just the girls)
6) and, best of all, mini-donuts!! We found these as we were leaving the fair and were so excited! Yum! The best of the day!!
Foods that we could have enjoyed but were too full/nauseous to try:
1) fried peach cobbler on a stick
2) fried ribs (yes, for real)
3) fried latte (not sure how that works!)
4) fried Coke (see above comment)
5) fried Oreos (which we had already tried at the CO State Fair and were DELICIOUS)
5) fried Snickers (again, already enjoyed at the CO State Fair)
6) fried French toast (winner of "best new fried food at the TX State Fair" award)
What a fun and tiring day! When we all got home, we took 4 hours naps!
We had such a fun visit with Michelle!! Other festivities with Michelle included a hard-fought game of Scrabble (of course, Dave won, as always), shopping at my new favorite thrift store (Thrift Town), lots of time talking at Panera with Michelle's sister-in-law and my dear friend, Tiffany, watching a very funny 80's movie, "The Housesitter," and looking at Michelle's gorgeous wedding photos! Michelle, we hope you visit again soon!
